From spring to summer the vineyard wakes to full life as we watch each day unfold. While we focus on the vines, so much other life abounds as well. As the only green landscape in the neighborhood, everyone wants to come visit. Some make it easily through or over the fence: birds, rabbits, ground squirrels, insects to name a few. For others the fence forms a successful barrier: deer, coyotes, jackrabbits surround us, but don’t enter. And then the dynamic begins–everyone is searching for food while the vines stand in place creating food, shelter and home for us all.
- The vines sleep through March
- when the first buds break
- Soon the vineyard regenerates
- with growth from the increased light
- Each day capturing more sunlight
- The grape bunches flower on the growing branches
- as they fill out in lushness.
- The vines reach toward each other
- and provide shade for the grapes
- and at summer’s peak start to show color
- While the rest of the landscape frames the vineyard.
- Cheers!
