In November, over Veteran’s Day weekend, we once again harvested the olives. Folks came together to share in the labor, feast together and experience the joy of touching the land and becoming community.

The olives were ready.
The vineyard awaited.
As did the farmer.
For the harvesters to arrive.
The harvesters set up camp.
And were ready to harvest.
Gathering around trees
they told stories
as they each
filled their baskets.
Mother and daughter, sharing the fruits.

Multi-colored olives filled baskets.
and the baskets filled small bins.
Some were on ladders.
All fully engaged.
Some raked the trees
to the tarp below.

We shared
joy.
The harvest bins
were carried to
big bins
to go to the mill.
Chef Brendan kept us fed.
In the morning we warmed up with our coffee.
And found sunny spots
to enjoy our meals.
Folks helped with food prep.
The dutch ovens roasted on the fire.
And everyone feasted
together.
From the vineyard to the glass
we enjoyed and learned
about Condor’s Hope’s wines.
Roasting marshmallows
as Paul & Emily played
And we rested and warmed around the campfires
while the moon rose over the vineyard.
Time to crush the olives at Figueroa Farm.
Mashed and milled
until golden oil emerges.
We taste the 2022 harvest.
