2005 Harvest
Our 2005 Zinfandel and Shiraz will be released in August 2007. The 2004/2005 season was an ideal dry-farm
year. It started off with a very wet October, followed by a dry spell until the end of the year when
heavy rain heralded the end of 2004. Continued wet weather in early January brought forth fields of
shooting stars and other wildflowers in our canyon. Rains stayed regular for the next two months,
allowing for a deep replenishing of soil moisture reserves for the dry summer months ahead. We were
able to put our drip system underground in March, and in early April carried out the first full cross
disking aspect of our dry-farm system. This proved important since even though the rest of the summer
was very hot, the Shiraz grapes were not irrigated. After a slow ripening through the third week of
August as temperatures moderated, sugars peaked quickly as a hot spell hit, and the Shiraz came in
on August 26th at 25.7 brix. A week later our Zinfandel was harvested and crushed out at 25.5 brix.
